Coded infrared laser sender?

Hi I am totally new to everything electronic and want to build a infraredlaser sender in a sequnce of pulses to a receiver which could understand which pusle it has recived fro instance
1. would be 1-11-0-111
2. being 1-1-11-1
Is this possible and how would i do it?

I would suggest you start simple like a Google of and learning how a TV remote control works. Then worry about modulating a laser beam.

This is a basic ir transmitter and receiver. You can just understand the basic ideas while puting on and off the ir emitter.
