Can someone explain how a Coax Cable Mapper works in simple laymans terms? In particular, what do the terminators do to the tone that allows the Unit to identify that particular terminator?

is a tone generating system, through this tone coninuity we can estimate and find any disfunction of the cablin system or the terminators.......now what else?

The different terminators have a different resistance value, which in turn causes the device to tell which cable is which.
