My experience suggests that a Tektronix scope (not an old monster but the ones less than 20 yrs old) can be had for $100 to $150. A surplus dealer in town has offered to put together a Tek with plug-ins for $150 and said that he'd make it right if there was a problem. I purchased a 65 mHz Hitachi last year for $65 from a friend. One channel works fine, the other is a bit noisy.
