If I have a CCD video module can I wire it directly to a harddrive from a computer to store footage for later use ?

No - you would need both hardware and software to connect the two - essentially a computer.

You can get units that will convert video & store it on a Sd card.
You might be able to get something that stores to a Hdd, have a look on ebay.

Or : You need a device that can communicate with the file system(s) on the harddrive - that is normally an operating system.

I have a £12 video recorder that has a 32Gb SD card.... I get an hour of reasonable quality footage..
