if a black box was given,with two wire pull out from the box.no other additional info was given,then how will you determine the impedance in the circuit?what is the resistance?if given that is a passive circuit,what will the circuit look like?
seem the task quite challenging.

What other equipment are you allowed to use - power supply, multimeter etc ?

power supply,oscilloscope,function generator,and all other electronic component such as resistor,capacitor etc.

Apply an alternating voltage, measure the resulting current and phase angle, Θ then apply:

Z = R + jX; tan Θ = X/R; |Z| = √(R² + X²)

Hope I got those right. Pulling out 20 year old memories.

Z=V/I,then substitute into 3rd equation,then solve simultaneously with 2nd equation?is that correct?

could we probably know the circuit configuration in the box by guessing?given the circuit inside is passive circuit.
