Is the TIP142/TIP147 a good enough equivalent to BDV65B/BDV64B, for an audio amplifier?

The main difference is the current capability, the BDV is 15A and the TIP only 10A - but for most audio use it's probably fine. I use the TIP142/147 all the time in audio amps - for a 100W amp I usually parallel them up, makes for smaller heatsinks and greater reliability.

possible replacement

hi phasor,

you can also try BDW83/84D, also MJ15015/16 in parallel. as what nigel has said the TIP is also a good sub.

Current capability is not a problem - the output is fused at 2A anyway. It's only a 60W amp.

Thanks for your help

For 60W the TIP142/147 would be fine.
