Bare Bones, Dirt Cheap mic/speaker

I need to monitor audio in another room. The distance is between 20' and 40' down a hallway. I need the mic to be hidden so baby monitor doesn't work. I'm looking at a mic with a built in preamp and line level output fed to PC speakers.
