Anyone interested in designing a µC-based NiCd/NiMH battery charger?

I built a charger simular to the one you are proposing. The advantage that mine has in charging AA's over the comercial product is that it monitors each cell individually. Most chargers monitor the cells in a group, causing some to over/under charge. This is especially true if the cells have discharged by sitting around unused because most have quite different self-discharge rates. The link to my charger:

Is the IC that does the job, upto 16 NiCD or NiMH batteries upto 4C.

You need a few external components to deliver the charge as the IC can't sink a few amps.

Again, maxim gives out free samples.
