Just be sure to follow the output capacitor recommendations. Don't use ceramics or very low ESR electrolytics and tantalums for the output cap. A big electrolytic (>100uF) with .2 to .5 ohms ESR would probably be good.
 
Micrel 5A and 7.5A regulators

You can opt for Micrel MI29500 or MIC29750 which are rated 5A and 7.5 A respectively.
