I have an AC split unit with 2.25 HP
Whenever the AC is started , the fan starts normally but when the compressor starts to run, the protection fuse trips.
I replaced the fuse but same problem
The fuse is 26 amp rating

The AC used to run normally for 5 years under the same fuse

What are the reasons that might lead to draw that high starting current?

Regards

If it ran OK previously either the AC is faulty (drawing too much current) or the 'fuse' is faulty (blowing at too low a level).

Yes, Particularly if it happens to have a start cap as well as a run cap, the start cap is only intermittent rated.
Max.
