i probably didn't understand how the timing thing work at first, so when i said 1Hz, i thought i meant 1 second up time and 1 second down time. this is what i thought i was saying, and what i need.

hi,
You want a frequency of 0.5HZ

Freq = 1/ Period

So, Fhz= 1/2sec = 0.5HZ . A period is a complete waveform cycle, high+low times.

What type of 555 are you using TTL or CMOS?

Also what is the point thats causing you problems.

TTL, and i can figure out how to get it

hi,

Look at this circuit gif.

Tried it with a range of 555's TTL and CMOS.

They do vary from one device to another.

I get 0.5HZ with a 50/50 duty cycle using the values in brackets.
Use pots if its a critical 0.5HZ at 50/50.
