40mtr or 2mtr transceiver schematic built in modules.

Hi,
At our club we are starting an electronics building section, and looking for suitable circuits, as learning tools.

Previously, I built a 40mMtr radio kit that fits in a sweet tin, which came with all the components plus PCB. This was built in stages and each section was tested along the way, so it was 'troubleshooted' till it worked. We don't want to build kits, but design the circuit, from probably Veroboard. Later we could etch PCBS.

I would like suggestions for a similar circuit, for either a 40mtr or 2mtr build please.

40m crystals are getting so hard to get nowadays than you might want to incorporate something like a DDS for freq synthesis.

You will notice that it is built and tested in stages, which make this good as a learning experience.

I am hoping for suggestions on a similar line, that aren't kits, as they are a bit like 'painting by numbers'
