3.7v 18650 battery powered ceramic tip lighter project.... CAN ANYONE HELP?

Just like the title says =) but is it possible??? I have these pencil eraser shaped mini ceramic heating elements, they say this on em- (24v/20w~9 ohm)

and was wondering how I would go about getting this thing red hot for short periods of time, by using 1- 18650 3.7v 1600 mah battery like this one......

is it possible? Someone suggested this booster , would this help?

I was hoping to keep it as small as possible so if other batteries would work better , or anything else, I'm open for suggestions....thanks in advance for any help that comes my way........

nothing is impossible, but will that voltage booster be able to put out enough amperage to get the heater hot. voltage isn't any good without the power.....also those look like nice little heater cartridges.

thank you! I love hearing that nothing is impossible, but it sure is tough having an idea, but little knowledge about electricity =( But I'm learning though.... and how would I test the booster? Im buying a multimeter tonight, if thats the answer =) but those heaters were hard as heck to get! They(china) only had 4 left , so I'm not sure if they r getting more, Ill find that out soon =)

These numbers do not add up according to ohms law.
Maybe they are the max voltage or power.
So any voltage under 24 volts that gives you 20 watts or less should work.
With 9 ohms always the same and a max of 20 watts you get 13.4 volts at 1.5 amps.
Can you try running it off a car battery to see if it gets hot enough for you?

I came up with about the same figures as 4pyros, most of the converters I've used are rated at 1.5amps or less, one of the converters I've used was from MAXIM and was rated at about 2.5amps max, I don't remember the number but was about a 12-16 soic dc-dc convertor that would run from 2AA's, but had a limited top end of about 7volts.......LINEAR has some nice ones that I've been testing right now, I've been aiming to make one using nichrome wire, but been too busy w/ other projects....

right on thanks for the info! I'm learning something new! do u think maybe I can use maybe 3 - 18650's to get 11.1v then maybe boost that? I'm just trying to keep it as small as possible.... thanks again.

20W is too high to get from only one battery cell driving a voltage booster because then its current will try to be 6.2A.

Let me know if you are still working on this. It's extremely difficult, even though it seems easy enough at first. I have an EE helping me as well.
