0.5mm/24pin FFC extension cable: build or buy?

Hello,

I have a small surveillance camera that attaches to the board with a very fine pitch FFC cable & connector.
The cable is very short and I would like to extend it so that I can articulate the lens of the camera.

Specs:
- 24 pins in 12mm (so .5mm pitch)
- 3-6" extension would be nice

Here is a picture with a ruler for scale:

Here is how it connects to the board:

So far I've contacted Molex, Digikey, and a few other companies that do not supply such a cable.
Mouser hasn't gotten back to me yet.

?? Any suggestions as to where I may look for an extension cable??

Option 2: Build a "cable"

A) assemble from parts:

1) Solder 2 'ZIF' type connectors together, like these from digikey:
Digi-Key - HFN524DKR-ND (Manufacturer - FH19SC-24S-0.5SH(05))

2) This cable from quadrangleproducts.com has discrete ends that would possibly be easier to solder, but it may also be much bulkier as a result.

B)[painful] Direct soldering

I saw Kipkay solder a camera lead on a similar camera (though not as small!)
He appears to have a cable with 8 fine insulated conductors . . .
- any idea what this is and where it can be purchased??

That looks tough, doesn't it!

Here is the video if you'd like to see how he did it.

So far, I'm leaning towards option #1!
I'm going to keep on looking for a cable.
Any suggestions or alternate solutions you have would be appreciated!
