Woven insulator

We are reverse engineering a miniature heating element in which 2 small diameter (.005")
lead from a mini DC battery and attach t a woven type sleeve. The sleeve (Approx .10 Dia X .010 wall (tube shape) looks like the white (woven) insulating tubing we sometimes use to insulate wires ajoining small heating elements. In this case, it appears the wires are glued to the tube which acts as a heater element. here doesn't appear to be contiuity thru the material. What can this material be?
 
Any material that can tolerate high temperature could be used. Fiber-glass is one possibility, or something like this.

Something dose not sound right there. For the most part High temp. wires are not glued. thay are welded. How hot dose the tube get?
Are you sure that there is not a heating element in the tube you can not see and that the wires insulation is glued to the insulating tube.

There is a ni-chrome coil inside the insulator sleeve. It is broken so I can't tell how many windings it had. Where can I find more info on small heater coils (5vdc)?
