Hi, I have this problem my software when observed does a restart because of watch dog reset. Because of this software reset one of the ports behaves abnormally since the reset status of this pin is High and I make it Low once in main routine. Now my question is i do not know the reason of watch dog reset. Is it a good thing or bad thing of watch dog reset. There can be several reasons of watch dog reset, do i need to investigate each and every case of reset or I can leave it?

Do you reset the watch dog often enough? If not then it is doing what it is designed to do.

Mike.

Last place I worked, the SW guys called it kick the dog :)

I have lots of code with kick the dog in :D, I guess its a bit of a in joke with programmers.

yes correct but by resetting the software are we missing some important bugs?
The watch dog timer only resets the processor if it takes too long doing a task - I.E. it's crashed or doing an infinite loop. If you don't reset (Kick) the dog then it will reset the processor.
