what does it mean set/reset the hardware

1) set/reset flip flop
2)set/reset counter

there are two additional input in flip flop and counter ICs someone explain please what does it mean

With flip flops, the reset input usually sets the output to 0, and the set input sets the output to 1.
With counters, the reset input usually sets the count to 0, and the set intput sets the count to some other number.
For details consult the datasheet of the particular part.

To add to what kubeek says, those inputs are typically asynchronous, that is they force the inputs to the stated states independent of the clock.

there are two type of circuit asnchronous and anschronous
synchronous flip flp
asyncronos flip flop

synchronous counter
asynchronous counter

that means set/reste both inputs are used in synchronous ans asynchronous
