Go to your Control Panel -> Miscellaneous -> Buddy/Ignore lists
and add members to the list. Or left-click the username in a post and choose "Add ____ to Yur Buddy List".
For the benefit of other members, "the buddy list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum .... you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online, and be able to send them a private message .... " (from the FAQs).
After editing the buddy list, click on "Quick links" -> "Open Buddy List".
