I am currently working on a raspberry pi project and need: to add a power switch. I purchased an eic320 c14 for this. However I need to wire a usb hub that has a 5v/2a dc adapter to it. What size wire should i use? Should i solder right off the plug or maybe plug into an extension cord and strip extension cord to solder? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Then cutting and stripping the plug side of an extension cord would be the safest approach. You might want to use Faston connectors with proper insulating sleeves or at least heat shrink tubing to attach to that IEC socket.
That was my thought as well. Basing alot of this build off of youtube diy projects and didnt like how that looked.
I believe that the led power switch is always lit and want it only to be lit in the on position. Can i reverse the wiring on switch so the led doesnt have constant power?
Do you mean the neon lamp inside the switch? I have only ever seen it lit when the switch is turned on. Just like all the extension cords with a lit switch.
Yes i the neon light in the switch. Perfect no fancy wiring needed there. Only other thing i was questioning was the volt rating on the iec switch. Its rated at 250v/10a. Those are max numbers right? Ill be fine plugging into a standard us outlet.
Thats all well and good but im jamming all of this in a NES case for a retro look. Think the rail system would fit inside it?
How would i go about wiring the power supply? Cut off adapter wire power suppy(just a new adapter?) And then wire to socket.
There are plenty of suggestions on the Amazon page for the connector/switch/fuse. The terminals are designed to be soldered or use crimp "fast-on" connectors which come in a few sizes. Wire size really depends on your fuse size, but probably somewhere between 14 and 18 AWG. One way is to solder and cover with heat shrink. Some comments I can't make because i don't know what part of the world you are in. 120/240? etc. There is a blue/brown/green or white/black/green color code you can use.
