Why use coiled wire in FM circuits ?

So ive been looking at a few FM transmitter circuits, for short range transmission, and almost(if not all) use wound wire for the inductor.

Why ?

I haven't really done the the math behind the cct to analyse its operation, but is the required inductance some value that cannot be produced using standard inductors, either through hole or surface mount ? Is that the reason ?

I'm just curious. Nothing that requires urgent attention.
