And here I thought the PE was the recipient of the efforts of the PE'r...

Hi fellows,

I live in Grenoble, France. Will be moving South of Paris for my retirement. Yea I know there are better places but my daughter lives out there so ...
I'm looking around Fontainebleau if any of you know where that is. There is a wonderful ancient forest to exercise a retiree like me.

It also seems to me that the Canada-USA border is worse than ever. I had less trouble crossing into the DDR (ex east Germany) years ago that going through that infamous Canada-USA border !!!

You should see the southern border.... :p

Isn't there a BIG wall put up there ?

Having been there, I climbed up the Berlin wall to see over it back in 1980. You know, where they had those signs saying you are leaving the American sector. There was just a big empty "no man's land"... nobody watching ...they HAD scared everybody away !!!

Well thanks to the EU there's little in the way of borders in Europe, my daughter lives in the Netherlands not far from the German border - the only way you know you've crossed the border is the instant deterioration of the roads :D The Dutch roads are amazing, the German roads seem as crappy as the UK ones!.

However, at least you get hills in Germany - and a nice castle we visited - bad bentheim castle.

Same road degradation between France and Belgium. You know you have crossed into Belgium when you are awakened from your (passengre) sleep by potholes in Belgium. Years ago you could tell you left Holland and entered Belgium when the lights along the highways suddenly disappeared and only had headlights to see wherer you were going !!!

My experience differs.
In Germany when the road surface is anything less smooth than a billiard table, there is always a sign telling you about it.
However, going across the "border" into France or Belgium...
they seem to specialise in rough old roads!

Roads have recently deteriorated in France, especially in the north but the road from Valenciennes into Belgium is still a joke on Belgium !

I just drove from Germany, along southern Belgium and into North Central France. You guys are arguing about road conditions like Olympic judges pick the best of the best. Come visit a rust-belt state across the pond and you'll learn why Ford will stop making sedans and focus on SUVs with larger tires and more suspension travel in future model years.

Detroit roads look quite a bit like a lot of British ones, then ;)
