Hi Eric

Believe me there are many RK's out there just waiting to follow in his footsteps.

If a gap is given that one individual will drain all resources available on a Forum.

Please think about what I posted ^^^^

All the best,

Asians where using mathematics and studying astronomy, when Europeans were still rubbing two sticks together to make fire.
And if you look at India now, they are the ones rubbing sticks together and living in squalour.

They currently have a space craft on the way to Mars.!
Thinking back to the "engineers" I met on my visits there a few years ago, I cannot imagine how they managed that.

Xenophobic? Not until I went there!
I came back with a very bad impression of the place and many of the people.

I have had a lot of experience with Asian (meaning mostly mainland China) students, both as fellow students and as trainees in my department. Of course, no characterization applies to all. As trainees in my department I would say they were well trained in book knowledge and had little practical experience. It was not unusual to have them give as an answer during group discussion a verbatim recitation of what the textbook said, even to quoting gene sequences. I don't have any data other than that, but I assume that impression reflects the massive class sizes in China. There simply are not enough subjects on whihc the students can get experience. After 4 or 5 years of training in the US, however, they were frequently our best trainees. Language could still be a little problem, but they were excellent.

If it or someone bothers you, just ignore!

that is a skill few employ. I've seen it many times over the last 20 years of forums and NNTP.

The news just reported the Indian Mars mission was about 78 million dollars. Then they compared it to a movie that cost more to make.

Wow, this thread really went South. Glad your still on the net EG")

hi Jim,
Even though you have a bad impression of the place, having read your posts for many years, you have been tolerant and wise enough not to 'slag' off these guys in your posts, but give technical help when possible and ignore as required.

Its a great pity that level of controlled attitude is not practiced by some other members.

tvtech, without wishing to sound offensive, having had to read your posts for many years, in a lot of your posts you are constantly moaning about the short comings of other 'races', in particular the locals in South Africa.
Many times moderation has had to caution you about this type of post.

Are you now saying we should not help or tolerate any Asian guy/gal who appears to be a little slow in learning, using RK as bench mark for all Asians.?

Its an international forum and as such its open to all nationalities and we should try to give 'help' or 'ignore' anyone who asks and not use the forums as a personal platform for racial bias.

The clue is in the site name: Electro-Tech-Online.:)

Eric

I have to say that, because of RK, I did not even open posts from first time posters with indian name/location for a long time. Now I do read many posts, but rarely respond. I'm fed up with people who do not have any interest in what they are doing.

Total agree with you Eric...

I'm in conversation with said man now.... He has his business up and running selling LED signage..... If he makes a dollar or two, he can't be that bad...... Go for it RK I say...

I have had a lot of experience with Asian (meaning mostly mainland China) students, both as fellow students and as trainees in my department.

Been talking to my daughter recently - as she has a fair number of Chinese friends over here doing their Masters.

In particular one who shared the kitchen with her last year - six rooms in a block, with a shared kitchen.

So they were sat in the kitchen, eating and socialising, and they got to talking about the future, after they finished their courses - the Chinese girl said she was going back to China to get married. So my daughter asked if she didn't think it was a waste, doing a Masters then simply getting married? - the answer horrified her!. She said coming to the UK and getting a Masters degree meant her father could get a higher dowry for her - and that was the sole reason for it :nailbiting:

As for language 'problems' (again she sees huge numbers of all nationalities), when I was at her new house the other week there was another student moving in, who I spoke a few words to - and his English was absolutely perfect, despite been Oriental.

Next day when I saw my daughter I commented on his excellent English, and she said "Oh, he'll be an 'International Student' - they all speak absolutely perfect English, better than the English do". I'm not very sure what an 'International Student' is?, but apparently they learn English from a very young age, whereas according to her Chinese friend they don't start until 13 years old - so are unable to ever remove their Chinese accents, it's too engrained. Incidentally, the new guy is Mongolian, but has lived and worked in Italy for ten years and is married to an Italian woman - presumably he's fluent in Italian (and Mongolian) as well?.

One would assume that on an international forum, bigotry and/or elitism would be dealt with promptly and severely, irrespective of the standing of the member expressing such. I've noted that certain members are somehow immune, and I do not understand why.

That's what pops up occasionally on ETO and I find it enormously inappropriate and embarrassing, as it reflects on us all equally... and I don't think that the "Members Lounge" should be exempt.

One's origin(s) are neither enlightening nor pertinent, within the confines of ETO, save for the availability of some components.

Nor is an exemplary command of the English language relevant. Query content is all that matters. Ask for clarification if needed.

So long as I can suss out their question/comment, I try my best to provide, hopefully, a useful response, if I have one to give...

ericgibbs, it is very, very good to see your contributions again.

Thank you for that recognition, I guess some of that comes from my day job where I explain a technical subject to people of all backgrounds and technical abilities.

Asia is a big place with many diverse groups, religions, nationalities and ethnicities.
Having said that, Indians are over represented in the group of those that cause me annoyance:
Not listening on discussion boards.
Incomprehensible accents in call centres.
Scammers claiming to be from "Windows Support" alerting me to (non-existant) problems on my computer.

I do not think that raking over this topic here on ETO is doing anyone any good at all.

That is all I have to say about that.

Hello Eric :)

Most of what you say is true. However, what you don't say here is the many times I was called into that "Private area" where you and EM and I spoke.
I always apologized. And rightly so......you Guys taught me to tone it down and that I did. I used to call a spade a spade. And that was that.

And I believe I have behaved and still am behaving well.

The only post I recall where I gave RK or any other Asian/Indian others a little bit of flak was with this video he posted:

He posted it and was proud of it. I said yes it is working....but not properly. Dig for the actual post if you want. It is here amongst the other stuff.

So, that's about when I gave up reading/posting on help threads...simply not good to interfere with things even if I can see something is wrong...
Better to keep quite and not interfere. Hey, good enough for them is magic.

And the the whole South Africa saga. For that I will never apologize :(

Please try and keep this in mind. Everything I speak about here is true. And Eric...your Son lives on a farm in the Pearston area near PE...
You are in England.

You get a phone call Midnight...a bad call.

Enough. There are only two South Africans here on ETO that I am aware of. SPDCHK and myself.

It is important that somehow the World out there understands...remember people searching for Electronic answers don't visit off topic. Nada or zilch.
Always in a hurry for help...they wont find it on off Topic..

Somebody has to document the decline of South Africa. I chose to do it. First hand here in the thick of it. And hopefully written in stone here at ETO.

Thank you,
tvtech

And as a last little thing Eric

It was worth it fighting tooth and nail for you when things went pear shaped here a while ago....you are one of the few that can tell me right in my face and I listen.

Sleep easy friend :)

You always make me think.

Regards,
tvtech

tvtech,

If you want to document South African life, you can blog to your hearts content with google's blogging. with the google account you can upload videos as well at youtube.

Placing an injustice on an obscure forum that is not related to the subject matter, is not going to get it noticed. At least with google blogs, you can develop a following, be it those that agree and those that disagree or a combination of both, each exercising what us Yanks call "free speech."

Of course, that is my opinion and I am the only person qualified to give it.

Apparently ETO is busier than AAC before 18H00...

The ebb and flow of the forum tides during a 24 hour period will always exist.

For instance: Here is some spot data that I recoreded .... by opening two windows, one for each forum, so there were seconds between the forums.

100339Z Sep 14
AAC 595 29 members 566 guests
ETO 565 12 members 447 guests 106 robots

101121Z Sep 14
AAC 586 22 members 564 guests
ETO 626 24 members 544 guests 58 robots

101337Z Sep 14
AAC 823 33 members 790 guests
ETO 775 29 members 691 guests 55 robots

102011Z Sep 14
AAC 676 34 members 642 guests
ETO 714 29 members 617 guests 68 robots

The cumulative total on a periodic basis is probably the best indicator. ETO had choose to discriminate between real people and robots. That is one of their metrics they decided was important.

There will be arguments day in and day out on which metrics rule the forum world. Like the real world, mitigating circumstances dictate the metrics. "How to lie with statistics by Darrel Huff" comes to mind when we start applying the statistics. For instance, if you want to demonstrate your forum's reach, your membership number plays a prominent role. Most know that some membership numbers are never culled, so those typically include everyone, including those "one and done" types. I'd venture to guess more than half the number are one and done and haven't shown their virtual face around here in months.

Here is my honest assessment of myself here @ ETO.

1.I have no technical advise to offer other than CRT repairs. And as all know here, CRT is mostly dead. Everywhere except here.
2. Members with Judgmental skills...are accessing me..not Technical...just here looking.^^^. And providing feedback. Invaluable no doubt to this Forum.
3. My Off Topic posting is probably annoying some people. Funny or not. This is a "Technical Forum". No joking allowed.
4. So, I am stuffed.

I don't ask for CRT repair help. I have been handling it for years without asking.

So, basically I am just a nuisance here. Without me interfering all Indian posters would be here still..
And ETO would be rocking.

I take full responsibility for my actions. I am the reason why ETO is where it is.

I am a bad boy.

I caused this. Bah :(. I don't think so.

Find other reasons. One poster that tries to tell the truth cannot cause the whole Indian community to stop asking questions here...

Pull the other leg. This one is stretched.

tvtech

Can I assume CRT is NOT Cathode Ray Tube ... but I do think the T is television.

I can recall doing CRT Rejunivation, but repairing was much different.

As far as your opinions concerning other groups, I don't care where you express your opinion. All I said was you'd have a better audience with a BLOG on google.

Just judging stuff here..

As all of you know I love ETO with all my heart...and ETO has fallen on listings. Down a lot since 2013.

Stupid me here and all loyal people here: There are some Members here that travel to other Forums, help there but always end up back here. There are many that do it. I have a little list of the most loyal. But it is soo interesting...like maybe we have a special place here.

Like visit that Forum, help there...get bored or shouted at and come home to us. We are always the same (speaking for myself). I am always basically the same.....a rant here or a rant there. But nevertheless a stable ranter.

I do not want to mention names...but you know who you are. You are all precious.

We are going to get ETO up and flying properly again. Not hobbling along like now.

I never really say stuff without getting into trouble. Like now.

See you Champs,
tvtech
