What will happen if you use AC instead of DC in a car's ignition coil? Will the arc be continuous?

Thanks Replies are welcome

No, a car ignition coil works by the back EMF generated when you remove power to the coil - you could feed it with a square wave, but that's pretty much what happens in the car anyway.

Could it get an arc, at all? Because if the input is a pure sine, I don't know if the input signal could get the ignition to start...
