What is a coil tap?

On a kit I bought and also on a plan I am trying to build, it says "coil tap". the second one i mentioned says "tap 1/3 of the way down the coil". what exactly does this do? i couldn't find any info online...

Tap means a connection taken out from middle or any other distance from the coil.

thats it.
you have let say a 30 turn coil and make a tap at 1/3 meas that you connect tha tap after 1/3 of the number of thurns, if you have 30 turns, then connect after 10 turns.
