I have two customers with DLP TV's that have small dots on the screen. One on the upper right, and the other upper left. Would a failing lamp cause this?

What is the color of the dots? How big are they? If they are black it may just be one or more failed pixels. Likely nothing you can do about that. A failed lamp would affect a large area of the screen.
The dots are very small, 7/32", and all colors. A previous servicer ground the corners off of a 14 lamp to make it fit on one that I removed the lamp. There were tiny bits of ground glass on the reflector, but after blowing most of them out the dots were still there
