Voltage Regulator Help!

Hi Everyone,

I'm a beginner and a bit confused on how voltage regulators work. Can anyone help explain them to me? Found this article https://www.derf.com/an-overview-on-voltage-regulators/ but its a bit complex. Need an easy explanation.

Usually a LINEAR low current voltage reference is used (like a zener diode) and then some type of amplifier (transistor) is used to limit current flow for the load until the voltage leaving the amplifier (transistor) matches the voltage of the low current reference.
