voltage and temperature monitoring on pc

i`m a final year student.
i have a project to design a device that can monitor the voltage and temperature of a thermal station on PC in order to easily detect abnomaly in the station. i will like to have ideas on this.it could be the use of cmicrocontrollere or without.thanks guys
