Velleman 8048 and WinPicProg

I cannot get my Velleman 8048 programmer to work with WinPicPro v1.91 .
After trying the four various programmer settings in the 'Programmer Type' window, along with checking a selection of each individual value shown in the 'Custom' window, without success, I was hoping someone who had overcome the same problem could guide me in identifying which boxes to check.

OK, I've had a look at the 8048 on the Velleman website, and it's a SERIAL port programmer, WinPicProg is for PARALLEL port programmers only, so it can't be used.

That's saved another afternoon of trying.
