Hey, I have recently purchased this chips and are wanted to use it to power a portable sound system, however i only have 8 ohm speakers on hand, what is the best way to use this chip to power a 8ohm speaker and get the most power out of it?

the chip has 2 set of BTL out put rated at 22W each to a 4Ohm speaker.

thanks in advance

All you can do is run it bridged, this will provide about 11W in 8 ohms.

You could always parallel two 8 ohm speakers to give 4 ohms, this will then give 11W from each, a total of 22W.

The TDA1554 provides 22W only when its supply voltage is 14.4V, only when its distortion is a horribly clipped 10% and only when it is bridged and its load is 4 ohms.

Its output is 12W into 4 ohms at clipping with a 13.2V supply.
Its output is about 7W into 8 ohms at clipping with a 13.2V supply.

If the supply is only 12V then its output power is much less.
If the supply is at its max of 18V then the output power is much more into 8 ohms.

It has a fairly high idle current of 80mA to 160mA which is OK in a car but eats batteries for a portable amplifier.
