i was wondering if i could use a stamp2 to start a timer which could output a 101010101010 ect which will blink a LED for a certain period of time

I don't use stamp's, but there should be no problem using one as a timer to do as you wish. A simple for/next loop with delay's is all that's required.
Presumably you simply want to blink an LED a specific number of times?.
