Unable to upload avatar image

Went to change my avatar image, system wouldn't accept the new image. Selected "Use Custom Avatar", found the file on my computer using "Browse" in Option 2, clicked "Save Changes". Got a vBulletin message: "Unable to save image"

The new image is a .gif and is smaller than stated limits. Any ideas about the cause?

Very strange. The permissions on the directory got changed somehow.. It should be working now.
