Yes, you are correct

...... however....

40KHz AC voltage is difficult to measure, and amplitude varies with many other factors, not just range.

This is why it is the 'flight' time of the utrasonic wave that is measured, in order to get an accurate distance measurement

You question is not clear, but I hope I guess correctly what you wanted
