TRRS audio jack question

All audio jack connectors to my knowledge have nothing more than metal contacts supported in an insulating body, whether they are 2, 3 or 4 pole (ts, trs or trrs). TRRS is designed to accommodate a stereo audio output such as headphones, and another connection which may be a microphone, switch or volume control. The connector doesn't care, just pick one that fits your application..
TRS is designed to accommodate stereo audio and TS is for mono.
You can use the connectors for anything you want, it's not just limited to audio.

The jack shown on the link is TRRS as has 4 pins; plus the comments above ^
