Trying to find info about mosfet suffix meanings. Specifically what's the difference between 20n50f and 20n50c transistors

It depends on the manufacturer and there is no standard nomenclature. In all cases the answer to your question about any part number for any kind of device is to consult the datasheet. Is there some reason that you feel the need to ask on a forum instead of going to the source?

In that case, the manufacturer!

That's not the entire part number - from a quick search, the C suffix one is a Vishay SiHG20N50C, while the F one is a Fairchild FDA20N50F (or similar from several Asian manufacturers).
The various devices with that same core number should?? be interchangeable.


Historically, the suffix letters were the gain grouping; eg. with common BC series transistors, the gain groups were typically A lowest to C highest.


Since surface mount and multiple package versions of the same silicon part are now common, the letter or letters more often relate to case style - within one manufacturers products; often different for an equivalent in the same case from a different manufacturer.

The extra characters in or after a part number can have multiple meanings, there is often a table in the datasheet for such devices that breaks down the parts of the number to possible meanings..
