How to test LED, Transistor etc components using multimeter?

Each multimeter is different. Some have "diode test" and "transistor test" functions. Some can measure the value of capacitors.
Read its operating instructions.

Buy Jestine Yong's E-book. "testing Electronic Components"
The best there is. I can test almost any component with a multimeter in under 10Sec. No external lamps, or power supplies required.
