Telephone bug question

I'm confused about something. (Please see the link)

In the notes, the last sentence in line 3 says, The green wire from OUT1 goes to the phone(s), as well as the red wire from OUT2.

What does this mean ?

I have a phone jack with the 4 wires exposed on the end (Red, Green, Black & Yellow). I know where the red & green wire goes on the circuit, but is a bit confused about the above statement.

there are only two wires used for the phone.
they are labeled here IN1 and IN2.
you can plug the phone to IN1 and IN2 it will work just fine.
bug is designed to be inserted in series with the phone.
this is now labeled as IN1 and IN2 while the outputs to the
phone jack are labeled OUT1 and OUT2.
because this is series circuit, bug cannot work if the phone
is not plugged to the OUTs.
the bug is just a small oscillator, D5 (the LED) acts also as
a voltage regulator for the oscillator.
I don't like the wiring of the switch. if you turn it off it wll not
just disconnect the bug but also the phone.
another concern is with the statement that if LED is burning
out you should simply add resistor. well that might save the LED
but will:
- remove voltage regulation to the circuit
- increase range of the transmitter (higher ocsillator voltage = higher power)
making possible for whole city to listen to your phone.
- reduce stability of the oscillator causing frequency drifts
- weaken signal to the phone affecting quality of the connection and
of course making bug more noticable.
 
Hi Moe,
The phone line, this circuit and your phone only use 2 wires: the red and the green. The black and yellow are for a 2nd phone line or power for a speakerphone.
The transmitter circuit is wired in between the phone line and the phone.
So just connect the phone line to the circuit's IN terminals and the phone to its OUT terminals.

The switch has an error. When you turn off the transmitter with it, the phone goes dead.
