perhaps the user manual gives some concepts.
In general it is believed that batteries suffer badly for partial charging. use it till 90% 0f battery life and then charge. it might be better

Leave it switched off, lol couldnt resist.

Seriously though, in your bios normally there is a power section, it may also be software based in windows.
using this you can set the screen so that its not as bright and also at the sacrifice of you CPU speed you can get extra time.

perfect
the battery serves its shelf life. I was assuming the query like, "how to make mattery serve for 6 years instead of 2 years under normal use."
if it is regarding hours of use,

in addition to low intensity, the longer HDD spin takes off more power. thus in order to improve on HDD working,. Many people suggest to periodically defrag the disk and it helps conserving battery as the spin time reduces for a unit job.

Here is a link to another Forum that specializes on Notebooks. Some good, reliable advise can be found there.

Here is their Notebook battery thread : **broken link removed**

Yes, I could have copied and pasted the info here...and taken the credit for it....that's not my style though. Rather visit for yourself

Hopefully I have not broken any rules here by posting a link to another Forum.

Cheers
