Smartcast by Humminbird-a feasable solution?

this product is a fishfinder that is claimed to work miracles, what do you think it's possible limitations could be, or is this just a progression of technology?

I have come across them, they have a small range/footprint.

so you just see where the fist are.
but it says on the website that the range is small.
dont think it will be much use.

how easy would it be to encode a sonar transducer signal for r.f. transmission?
