well... for that part I myself am not very well informed... I'm just starting out too. But from what I gather TI's site here, they only specified the types of license, not the code size limit. If I'm not mistaken the 4kb limit is for Kickstart isn't it?
I read somewhere that the limit is 16kb, IF I remember correctly. That's a lot. :)

But then, I might be mistaken. Happy coding. Time for PIC enthusiasts to branch out a bit too. :)

Hi again,

Yes that's what i was thinking too (about the PIC en's) which is what i was secretly planning :)

I'd like to find out what the limitations are for the free version. I'd hate to get into the situation where i needed 20 more bytes of code and had to shell out 200 bucks to get a better IDE.

The code size limits are described on the Launchpad wiki page;

Both IAR and CCS have free, code-limited versions, which are available for download. These IDEs will run full-featured on the available MSP430 Value Line devices, as these devices will not encounter the 4kB size limit of IAR, or the 16kB size limit of CCS.
That info' is a little outdated because there are several new Value Line devices available now with more than 4 kB flash memory. Here's a list of the MSP430 Value Line devices I've sampled so far;

There are also links on that wiki page to tutorials, forums, and a nice workshop, so it's definitely worth a careful read.

Cheerful regards, Mike
