serial cable

i just got a pic programmer from maplin an d built it.
but when i opened it, it did'nt come with a serial cable to connect to the pc.
so i tryed to get one but they were out of stock.
i bought a 9 pin f and m connecter for the serial port.
i connected it but it doesnt work does anybody know why.
 
Try out whith your multimeters conductivety test if all the contacts have a good conection and that they are conected right.

Resistor leads fit in the Female conectors prety well and those small crocodile clips are good for males.

Test it pin by pin!
 
Some devices require "null-modem" cables, where RXD and TXD pins are swaped (just like crossed ethernet cable), try that.
