Try killing the ETO cookie. This should log you out. You should be able to single it out and delete it. Deleteing single cookies works just as well as the equivalent of "re-install windows". i.e. delete all of the cookies and clear the browser cache.

Aside from the previous mentioned actions, I killed ETO's cookies, no joy. I then deleted all cookies from the beginning of time, still no joy. So, clearing cookies and cache from the beginning of time didn't work. Double checked that no spam blockers are active on my e-mail accounts. Using two e-mail accounts with two providers doesn't work. Trying a "subscribe thread" didn't work.

On the plus side, I set the send alert when reply to subscribed thread. That still did not send an e-mail, but it did set an alert when I opened ETO.

For some reason, ETO will not send me an e-mail. Microchip, EDA Board, Sears, Macys, and of course Facebook(spam) and every other spammer do. Last choice appears to be for me to wipe my drive, do a clean install of Windows 7, and re-install all my other programs. THAT is not going to happen.

Hi,

Wow that's strange. I wonder how that can happen unless your IP is blocking ETO for some reason.

I just discovered a new problem too. I was replying to a 'conversation' with someone in my personal 'box' and i had mentioned that there might be a better part for what they wanted to do but i did not know the part number so i would do a quick search. After i found the part i came back and edited the original reply in the conversation thread. I had described the working of the part and some other details, and when i pressed the 'save' or whatever button i was stunned to find that "The time for editing has expired", and the text i had just typed out was lost (unless there is some way to get it back but who knows). So i had to type it all over again in a 'new' reply. Not fun.

It's unfortunate that i am finding that the new software has bugs and it seems like more bugs are coming in as time goes on rather than less bugs as time goes on. Not sure why or how this could happen. Im still using the same browser i always used for ETO and many other sites.

My e-mail accounts are with two providers, Cox Communications and Armstrong Communications. It is unlikely both would get a false block, unless the ETO IP is on a blacklist to which both subscribe. But, if that were the case, I suspect others would be having the same problem. Moreover, such blacklists are cleared every few days, I have been told.

My anti-virus is Avast (free version). That always -- so far as I know -- sends a warning when something is blocked. No warnings have been received.

It is not a huge problem, except if a reply is sent to a post of mine, I may not notice it for a few hours. At least the Alert function when on the site seems to work, So I won't miss PM's. I hate to be thought of as rude.

Would you or KISS send me a PM so I can see whether e-mail notification works for that function? I am assuming it does not. But will check the site periodically for it.

John

99% of not getting notifications has to do with not having ETO's or some other forum's notification address in your email clients address book. The noreply@

Yahoo once in it's infinite wisdom never considered alternate addresses. Who knows what it does now with NEO.

Maybe the eto domain is blacklisted by your ISP?

noreply@electro-tech-online.com is on my safe senders list.

On the other matter, I tried responding from an alternate address to one of the Yahoo groups I am on. Yahoo rejected it. One must register the alternate address as a new user. That is about as likely to happen as me removing Win 7 and re-installing on the chance it might fix the ETO e-mail problem.

The Yahoo group in question is a rather small group, the Prazi SD300 lathe group, and I happen to be an original purchaser with all of the original manuals. Of course, the answer was in one of those manuals, but I couldn't post it. The new CEO seems to be a little tone deaf to what current Yahoo users liked about the service.

Hi John,

I started a 'conversation' using your screen name, so lets see if it makes it to your email this time.
I think you have to give it a few minutes though, maybe 5 minutes.

Thanks, Al. Nothing in my e-mail after 1 hour. I recleared cache and cookies from the beginning of time. Did it simultaneously. Will see if that has any effect.
John

Hi again John,

I just checked mine too and i am NOT getting notices for 'conversation' threads either. I am getting notices for regular threads like this one however.

So now i am not sure if we are supposed to get notices for conversation threads or not.

I just checked both of my webmail accounts (Armstrong and Cox) using a different box running WinXP. No settings on that box (a laptop) have been changed since I got Armstrong service at the farm. It was working at McDonalds for messages from ETO in the August time-frame. Nothing recent from ETO is on either webmail account. Will check my Cleveland desktop that is wired directly to Cox on my next trip there. My last trip was Saturday, November 2, and there were no ETO messages on it either.

Two hypotheses:
1) A bug or corrupted file at ETO; or
2) Somehow ETO has found itself blacklisted by two, distinct ISP's, and that black listing has not refreshed as it usually does.

#2 seems pretty unlikely.

For EM: I just changed my e-mail to the Armstrong ISP and will let it sit there longer than I did last time.

Hi John,

Seeing as how the forum recently went to new software i cant help but think something like that is wrong.
All of a sudden i cant see images posted in threads now if it is in the middle somewhere. If it is at the end i can see it. I think this is with Firefox only.

Checked my Cox Communications account that has a direct wire to Cox the ISP. No messages from ETO.

@EM, Is there anything you can check on your end related to corrupted data or settings?

John

Yep! Happening here as well... At home I use chrome with no problem... Firefox just shows the place mark..

I'm not getting any notification emails for the "Bye for now" thread or the "Muppet" thread - I run my own mail servers so know nothing has been blocked.

*Edit - just noticed these entries in my syslog on the mail server :

Looking through todays logs, I've got maybe 80 error messages regarding electro-tech-online and two others, one an Indian incoming spam email and another for a site securityspace.com so this could well be an incorrect MX setup or rdns issue somewhere.

Here's an ironic twist: I got an e-mail notification from EDA Board about my post on ETO! I guess its engine for link-backs caught the link I posted.

Still no emails although I can see them trying to get through.

Ok - just added the 68.233.249.134 address in my hosts file on the email server - I think I may know what the issue is but not 100% certain.
