Hello -
Let me begin by saying that the extent of my electrical knowledge has been acquired in the last week as part of a research project for school (MBA student).
Is there a difference between an inverter (and its components) used for solar & wind vs traditional power? If there is, what companies are leading the way in components? If there isn't, is there a reason companies like Marelco, Onyx and Hammond would say they have these products for these specific applications (other than the limited marketing angle)?
The inverters and UPS units are appliances, and only require a few agency approvals, if any. Profit margins are tight and they are sold retail. Components are light duty, and the consumer isn't asking how reliable it is.
Wind & Solar grid-tie are continuous duty systems that require local, state, federal, home owners association, UL, the PUC, and the local utility to approve. The components are insignificant in the total cost of the installation.
