Wond3rboy and I were talking about the PICkit3 and clones in chat. He found one.

This is a commerical clone. There seems to be at least one DIY design using Protel for layout.

I did not check closely but at first glance it may be possible that this clone is a close copy.

As long as I can keep the PICkit 2 running for the programmer / UART tool I'll be happy.

I take it that the PICkit 3 still doesn't have the UART or logic analyser tools?

I hope that happens Bill.

Just depends on if the want to keep the customer base happy or sell PICkit3's. Or it could even be that PICkit2 users are mostly hobby types (buy few chips) and considered noise.

How crushing to find out I'm considered "noise" (lol)...
Your work will always be music to my ears LOL

Bill
As far as I can tell the only thing that will drive people to the 3 is the fact that MC is not providing support for new chips on the 2. And the 32 bitters.

I want to use the new 32bit PICS ... so I will need a pickit3. Has anyone here purchased the pickit3 clone from Sure-Electronics? I would like a review if possible. Otherwise to buy an original will incur international postage charges and customs fees (upwards of $30) which puts me off.

With a name like Sure-Electronics it has to be good really I never have got any thing from them I was not happy with.

There clone looks good.

wow its $45 for a Original PICKIT 3 and $32 for a Clone (13 less)... but remember free shipping from sureelectronics too so you save another $6 or so... thats a $20 saving almost... id try the clone first... Since i support microchip by buying there ICs anyway
