The only chip with an ID of 0x1120 is an 18f2515 device.. I think your chip isn't very well...

God damn it! I think my chips have the bug, gastroenteritis - it's going around, they were all in the same box. I tested another it says the same thing

Target Device ID (00001060) does not match expected Device
ID (00001120).

But programming works fine.

I think it must be a bug in pickit3..... I have MPLAB v8.76... Pickit3 with v 1:26:71 Working ok..... Have you set the voltage to 5v?

My MPLAB is v8.86
Firmware Suite Version...... 01.27.20

Yes I have set it to 5v.

Does that mean I cant debug on that chip? Or any?

edit

tried a different chip P12F629
PICkit 3 detected
Connecting to PICkit 3...
Firmware Suite Version...... 01.27.20
Firmware type......................Midrange
PICkit 3 Connected.
Device ID Revision = 0000000b

PK3Err0040: The target device is not ready for debugging.
Please check your configuration bit settings and program
the device before proceeding.

Stepping target failed

Ahh!! All comes clear..... You need a header board to debug... AC162053 its about £29 from Farnell

lol - right. I did say in a previous post do I need something extra, no one noticed I guess.

Also would I be right in saying that some pics don't need a header?

For now MPLAB sim will do me.

Correct post#11 Sorry missed that part....

Some don't When you "Select Device" in MPLAB there are loads of graphical lights... Each chips abilities / limitations are displayed..

I use ISIS for debugging so I never have that issue..

MicrochipDirect are selling the header for £22.50.

is that for any chip/size?

I have used mplab debugger correctly and there maybe a problem with your programmer verify with this version of PICkit2 which I have tested already
