PIC16f877A keypad decoder?

hi, i'm doing a project using pic16f877a with lcd n keypad
i was wondering is there a need for the keypad to have any decoder for it?

btw, izit possible if i want to add a timer to controller the input and output, setting for it to maybe on for 10 min then off. what do i need for that??

Just software, generate regular timer driven interrupts and count them.
