Does anyone know how to convert an induction motor to a generator? I've read somewhere that you need to connect in parallel an AC starting capacitor with the motor leads. Is that true?

That is where I've read the idea about converting the motor to a generator. So, does anyone here have an experience in doing it?

If your motor has slip rings, giving access to the armature winding, all you have to do is apply DC to the armature and turn it, taking AC off the stator.
