I've got a Dell Dimension 1100. It is supposed to take DDR memory, PC3200 400 MHz. It has 2 sticks at 512 MB each.

I have tried a couple of different brands of 1GB sticks, including Kingston, and the PC just bleeps as though there's no memory fitted.

Is there anything special that's needed?

I looked up your box and if it's the same as what my neighbor has, 1GB is as high as it goes. Occasionally you can bump it up with a bios update, I wasn't able to on that particular machine. I suppose you've probably already verified the ram in another computer?

I think that 1GB sticks are as large the computer can handle. Dell sell 1GB sticks for it. There are two slots so I am trying for a total of 2 GB

The Kingston ones do work in another PC.

Any ideas?

Thanks for that.

I seems that the Dimension 1100 computers don't like ECC memory. Why the b****y things can't ignore the 9th bit is beyond me.
