Also sometimes these are membrane typ switches with a metal snap disc. Commonly seen mounted on a PCB with a separate plastic button actuating it.

Not really, it's just a momentary contact push switch (cheap mice use them), some cheap joysticks use them - although better examples of both would probably use micro-switches.
