S Scarr Member Jul 26, 2004 #1 Hi, I have a MCP3208 and I want to monitor a 1.5v battery with it, I'm pretty new to A/D so I have a few questions. VREF, should I use a special reg for this? also if I set VREF to 2v will I get more accurate result becuase the range is now only 0v-2v and not 0v-5v? Hope I'm making sense ) Thanks

Exo Active Member Jul 26, 2004 #2 If you need high accuracy you can use a precision voltage reference like the REF03 (2.5V) https://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Data_Sheets/209654177REF03_f.pdf but, for the purpose of a battery monitor I would think a zener would do... And yes indeed, if you lower your VREF to 2V then the result will be more accurate.
