is it easy to convert an old colour laptop screen LCD to be used with any computer? are the wires going to the screen the same as the pins on the plug?

Not usually, there's no reason for a laptop screen to have a standard interface for a VGA monitor, normally they would connect at a much 'lower' level. 'Lower' in the respect that it's not just RGB video signals, but actual control signals to the LCD controller chips.
There's been quite a lot about it other the years, but I've not heard of any simple or practical solutions.
